Tanger Outlets Fort Worth

The Tanger Outlet Center added a new location to their list of ultimate shopping experiences. The recent open-air outlet mall is located in far North Fort Worth, Texas, just south of the Texas Motor speedway. Working with the architectural firm Adam & Associates, known for their unique combination of world class experience and small town personality, they put together a plan that incorporated the time proven, durable Bomanite Decorative Concrete for the exterior of the outlet walkways.

The Fort Worth mall features 70+ hi-end stores such as top fashion designers Cole Haan, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, and Steve Madden along with snack-centered eateries like the Great American Cookie Company that brings shoppers from all over Texas. Over 181 million shoppers a year visit the 39 Tanger Outlets located throughout the U.S. and Canada. Each center has a unique theme to its shopping destination with upscale architectural features and play areas for children. Texas-inspired artwork in the courtyards such as a life-sized steel sculpture of a longhorn and a fire pit were incorporated along with port-style rooftops over many of the stores to protect shoppers from the Texas seasonal weather. Adams & Associates worked with Bomanite Decorative Concrete Craftsmen, Texas Bomanite to choose the system appropriate for the architectural design.

The Bomanite Imprint Systems with stamped, stained and colored concrete with high end finishes accentuating the store fronts and Texas-style artwork featured at many of the pedestrian intersections was the product of choice. Before the project was underway, Texas Bomanite produced 6 different mock-ups to provide a visual for the general contractor, Mycon and the architect to demonstrate exactly what each pattern and color would look like to help aide in the decision-making process.

Texas Bomanite installed over 145,000 square feet of architectural concrete that incorporates 4 different patterns (Bomacron Canyon StoneBomacron Medium Ashlar Slate, Bomacron Random Boardwalk, Bomacron 6” x 6” Granite Setts)  and 2 textures (Bomacron Used Brick Texture, Traditional Broom Finish) with multiple colors of Integral Color, Color Hardener and Release Agents each adding different interest and ambiance to the Texas themed look. The entire project was sealed with Bomanite HydroLock for additional durability. This mega installation of Bomanite Decorative Concrete offers versatility in design, long-term durability, low-maintenance, weather-resistant features and environmentally friendly attributes for the Tanger Outlet and earned Texas Bomanite The Best Bomanite Imprint Systems Project Bronze Award for their styled fashionable walkways for shoppers seeking retail therapy.

Nickel & Suede Retail Shop (Modena SL)

Be Brave. Take a Chance. Change Your Life. These words are the mantra of Nickel & Suede, believing that trying something new can change your life. What started out in a basement and now has become a multimillion-dollar business with a 12,500 square foot facility for their Headquarters, Nickel & Suede just opened their flagship store with many more retail spaces to come.

The Missouri local, Kilee Nickels and her husband Soren tell the story of how the idea and need for a pair of statement earrings became a bigger than life moment. Kilee’s simple teardrop design made from a leather purchase inspired by her family’s previous belt business was an immediate success and she set about making earrings for others. Kilee and her husband, Soren Nickels founded Nickel & Suede in 2014 and have grown the company to thirty employees while keeping their product made in the United States. The Kansas City couple creates lightweight, statement earrings made of leather and high-quality materials such as 14 karat gold. They started their company in the basement of their home but quickly outgrew the space and knew they needed to expand. They reached out to Kansas City based Hufft Design, recognized as one of the top 50 design firms by Architect Magazine, to help them create a plan for growth. Hufft designed their retail store in their new 12,500 square-foot headquarters in Liberty, Missouri. The facility is a master’s course in retail design, providing a refined shopping experience that evokes the quality of the Nickel & Suede products. Hufft designed the Nickel & Suede floor system with a honey-colored wood island inset into a Bomanite Custom Polished concrete floor.

Bomanite Licensee, Musselman & Hall Contractors, LLC had previously worked with Hufft on their award-winning designs for the Tuft & Needle store in Overland Park, Kansas. The contractor and designers had worked together to choose a polishable overlay for the Tuft & Needle shopfront that would allow minimal issues with transitions, but still create a durable and attractive floor. That first installation ended up being just the ticket, so Hufft decided to utilize the same high performance self-leveling concrete polish overlay, Bomanite Modena SL in the Nickel & Suede flagship shop. The overlay was to be installed at only ⅜” thick, so preparation was key. The Musselman & Hall foreman, Johnathon Eggert, and his crew used large abrasive diamond grinders to profile the entire interior floor as preparation for the overlay. A five-man crew was able to place the entire floor in just one day using small onsite mixers. The new flooring overlay only needed 24 hours to cure before it could be finished. Diamond tooling was used to polish the floor to a satin finish. A Bomanite penetrating sealer was applied to provide resistance against stains while still keeping a low maintenance surface. The warm gray floors show no perceptible aggregate and are an integral part of the overall design aesthetic.

Soren Nickels had this to say about his experience, “We wanted to build up the concrete floor to the level of our decorative inset, while going for a refined concrete look. We were introduced to Musselman & Hall with the understanding that their creative work in concrete concepts would give us some trustworthy options. This definitely proved to be the case. We wanted to avoid any surprises, so we let our trust in their experience lead the way. We felt that the product they recommended would match what we were looking for-even with all the particulars we asked for. The team that showed up to do the work definitely proved to be careful masters of their craft. In our minds it was fine-finish work and they delivered. We even made a few last-minute adjustments that were handled with ease, flexibility and speed.”

The finished retail interior floor is a simple, but elegant representation of the design flexibility of decorative architectural concrete and Bomanite’s diverse sustainable offering of flooring and paving systems. As Nickel & Suede continue to inspire individuals to be brave and try new things. We encourage you to imagine the possibilities and let Bomanite Decorative Concrete make those dreams a reality.

AWARDS: Musselman and Hall Contractors, LLC was awarded the 2019 Bomanite Custom Polishing Project Bronze Award for their work on the Nickel and Suede Flagship Store.

Tanger Outlets – Daytona Beach

The future of physical shopping is about creating a compelling destination and a location specific experience to engage the public to generate return visitation. Tanger Outlets Daytona, working with project designer, EDSA and decorative concrete craftsmen, Edwards Concrete Company provided just that! Bomanite Licensee, Edwards Concrete, with their expertise in the decorative concrete field helped to create an ultimate shopping experience that provided the guests with the feeling of spending the day at the racetrack with a beachy vibe. Working for four months building out walkways, major thorough fares, plazas, outdoor living areas and a splash pad playground along with thousands of feet of decorative concrete curbing, Edwards Concrete pulled out all the stops to transform the 38-acre site design into a contemporary social gathering mega shopping mall.

The project designer EDSA has a winning track record for planning, landscape architecture, themed environment design and urban design. Breaking the mold of a traditional outlet mall, Tanger Outlets Daytona was designed to provide a fresh and unique appeal to their customers. The aesthetic styling is a combination of beach-industrial and mid-century modern theme with brand name stores located in the interior space that are connected by the outdoor walkways and plaza spaces inspired by the Daytona International Speedway that lies just a few short miles away.

With a circular racetrack pattern on the outside perimeter there are four standout entry plazas of ocean, beach, industrial and Floridian forest themes showcasing unique decorative concrete paving installed by Edwards Concrete, with planters and lighting that lead into an interior checkerboard pattern of sponge finished two tone colored concrete walkways resembling the racetrack infield.

A Bomanite Exposed Aggregate step plaza with light box seating and handicap ramp was created with embedded seashells to provide a reflective nature of light. Common gathering spaces, “pit stops”, create points of convergence; media lounge, two outdoor living rooms, three cabanas, lighted sitting swings, and shading trellis contribute to the social shopping experience. To facilitate the beach theme Bomanite imprinted concrete in a Bomacron Boardwalk pattern was incorporated into several of the lounge areas as well as common walking areas along the front of retail shops. In addition, a kid worthy splash pad playground and central water fountain support the family-focused atmosphere. Edwards Concrete used several ocean inspired blues of concrete colorant for the surface area of the splash pad and sandblasted the defining bands in beige to mimic the water and sandy beach vibe.

Decorative concrete paving and flooring are becoming more and more commonplace in commercial and retail facilities such as this themed shopping mall for its versatility in design, long-term durability, low-maintenance, weather-resistant features and environmentally friendly attributes. Not only did Edwards Concrete display their craftsmanship with Bomanite Decorative Concrete for multiple applications within the scope of the project, they also met the grand opening deadline of this beachy racetrack theme inspired mall while enduring Hurricane Matthew that hit during the installation. Tanger Outlets 44th center in Daytona Beach was up and running on their targeted date offering a world-class shopping themed experience for local, national and international visitors.

CUPS Yogurt

Cups, a self-serve yogurt store chose Bomanite Micro-Top for its ability to provide custom colors and graphics that matched the cool vibe of the store. Bomanite Licensee, Beyond Concrete, had to first remove the extensive existing glue and surface and do some much needed crack patching. Once the Bomanite Micro-Top overlay was in place Bomanite Hydrocoat sealer and Bomanite Interior Floor Finish were applied to provide the low-maintenance and protection needed for the day to day foot traffic.

Micro-Top by Bomanite is a cutting-edge technology, that uses a paper-thin concrete medium, that provides a coloration system like no other. Utilizing a troweled-on cementitious topping that tenaciously bonds to virtually any substrate, including concrete, wood, metal, plastic or asphalt, Micro-Top succeeds where other coloring methods have failed. Micro-Top provides a canvas where works of art are graphically produced, utilizing custom logos, unlimited graphics, swirls of color or marbleized hues to reach the perfect color combination.

Micro-Top can transform damaged concrete or an expanse of plain, gray concrete into a distinctive and dynamic area, bringing bold colors and designs where they’ve never been before. Micro-Top is an ideal replacement for carpeting or laminate flooring-no costly blasting is necessary before application-resulting in significant savings of time and money and making it perfect for that retail makeover.

Sprouts Farmers Market Parking Lot

The Sprouts Farmers Market Store located in Denton,Texas incorporated a void structured Grasscrete parking lot into their build and design. The company needed a pervious pavement system that could control storm water drainage, stand up to emergency vehicles as well as offer a standard parking lot with delineated parking stalls.

Working with the local Grasscrete Installer, Texas Bomanite, and the engineer, Winklemann & Associates, Inc.the parking lot was designed and installation of 14,775 square feet began with the layout of the formers to fit the space and requirements. The subbase was prepped prior to the formers being laid. Reinforcing rebar was set and concrete poured next to provide the stability and strength needed. Former tops were then removed and voids filled with stone.

The Grasscrete Stone Filled System was ideal for Sprouts. The Stone filled system is perfect for sustained traffic areas and can be filled with no-fines stone for maximum percolation rates while providing a low maintenance option that is both functional and environmentally friendly. Stone filled systems are capable of draining at rates of up to 480 inches per hour with 100% retention of water possible with correct design.

Sprouts practices “Responsible Retailing” in sourcing, operations and building. All stores are built to LEED Silver specifications. The void structured Grasscrete system contributes to LEED requirements due to the reduction in heat island effect, management of storm water runoff, recycled content used in the application process as well as the concrete and sub-base, the long lifespan and the low maintenance required. Grasscrete Systems are highly sustainable with a very low life-cycle cost and the ability to be completely recycled and used in a future project.

The Villages Paddock Square and Cow Path Entrance

Paddock Square, a town square where residents congregate for nightly entertainment with plenty of food and retail opportunities, features water towers, silos, barn and log-cabin structures. The style is designed back to an era when cowboys drove cattle through the state. Bomanite Licensee, Edwards Concrete Company took the ideas of the architect, Michael Pape and Associates, and made them come alive with their talented crew of concrete artist and even added a few of their own designs to make the theme really stand out and create a WOW factor.

At Paddock Square, Edwards Concrete placed integrally colored concrete in an earthy brown shade. Bomanite Color Hardeners and Release Agents were utilized with the Dried Earth Texture stamp to provide an illusion of sun-baked mud and dirt.

The sidewalks to the entrance of Brownwood at paddock Square had to be poured while overhead cranes set the Bronze statues in place. Once the cows, horse and dog were in place the Edwards crew had to pour concrete up to and around the animal feet then stamped the concrete to make it look like the animals were traveling through an old west town on a dried cracked mud path. The cow and horse stamps had to be made to match the size of the animals and scale of the statues. Creative stamping techniques were utilized, for horseshoes, “cowboy” footprints and tracks of wagon wheels. Installers strapped horse stamps onto their own feet and even hired a white dog to strut across the wet concrete. The Bomacron Dried Earth Texture imprinting tool from Bomanite was employed to weather the faux dirt.

Bass Pro Shop – Miami

PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS/INFORMATION

Project Description:

Intermountain Concrete Polishing created a walkway and interior space to match the colors of the Florida Keys by using a the Bomanite Patene Artectura System in a combination of Bomanite Blue Concrete Dye and Bomanite Chemical Stains in Auburn and Pine. To contrast the dramatic color of the walkways that run through the Bass Pro Shop retail area, the remaining areas of the concrete base floor used the Bomanite VitraFlor System and were polished at 800 grit and sealed with Bomanite StainGuard providing a sleek finished look.

Bomanite defines polished concrete as having sand exposure in the concrete surface at a minimum, the concrete is treated twice with chemically hardening compounds (once to harden the weaker paste surrounding the aggregates and once to finish hardening while improving stain resistance) and polished in successive steps in a manner similar to a granite countertop or floor. The process uses successively finer diamonds to produce a tight, durable finish that maximizes the strongest part of concrete – the aggregates. The Bomanite process is much closer to highly durable Terrazzo than to chemically hardened cement paste. Capitalizing on the hard aggregate is what makes a Bomanite polished floor superior to other systems both in retention of gloss and durability
