Bomanite of Tulsa Installs Bomanite Revealed and Alloy to Create Contemporary Concrete Pool Deck Design

This beautiful backyard retreat was created to serve as an outdoor extension to an already stunning home, with contemporary design and distinct detail that enhance the home’s architecture.  Bomanite Licensee Bomanite of Tulsa, Inc. was enlisted to create the pool decking and provide a surface that would visually and functionally complement the pool while also enhancing the home’s exterior and landscaping.

Durable Hardscape Decking with Versatility for Distinct Design

Bomanite decorative concrete is the optimal choice to create swimming pool decking because it provides high durability and versatility for customizing color, pattern, and design style.  The homeowners were originally planning on color and rocksalt but after a visit to the Bomanite of Tulsa showroom they changed their material selection to include Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Systems with Bomanite Revealed and accents of Bomanite Alloy.

Bomanite Revealed combines the durability of concrete with color and pronounced decorative aggregate and utilizes pre-blended binders, light fast pigments, topical treatments, and advanced application procedures to produce a finished product that showcases the seeded aggregate.  Unlike most surface seeded installations, Bomanite Revealed provides 100% exposure of the decorative aggregate with no native sands detracting from the finished appearance.

Bomanite Alloy is a unique alternative to other decorative concrete finishes and provides an architectural exposed finish with varying exposure depths using non-native quartz and decorative aggregates that are surface seeded on the concrete.

Bomanite Revealed and Bomanite Alloy both provide an architectural finish that is highly suited for exterior applications, including pool decks or anywhere that improved wear resistance for light to moderate-duty vehicular or foot traffic is required.  Additionally, these highly durable surfaces are available in a multitude of standard and custom options, including light-reflective formulations that reduce heat island effect, water resistant formulations for wet areas, and other specialty applications that can be personalized to your project.

Installation and Award-Winning Results

After the finishes were selected, Bomanite of Tulsa set to work with the installation.  The pool coping was poured first, followed by the field of Revealed.  Alloy was then used to fill in the bands and the combination of Revealed and Alloy was perfect to provide increased surface and slip resistance.  The exposed decking reduces heat island effect, making the pool deck walkable and not hot to the touch.  The drains were incorporated into the exposed aggregate concrete and feature a concealed slot drain design that was chosen to eliminate the sight of drain grates while providing efficient drainage.

From start to finish this project ran smoothly and resulted in a contemporary decorative concrete pool area that broadens the home’s living space, providing an outdoor retreat for the homeowners and their guests to enjoy.  The installation of Bomanite Revealed and Bomanite Alloy earned Bomanite of Tulsa the 2020 Best Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Systems Project Honorable Mention Award for their outstanding efforts in creating a durable and distinct hardscape while adding ambiance and enhancing the homeowner’s sophisticated style.

Beyond Concrete installs Award Winning Bomanite Alloy Street Design for Two World Trade Center

Bomanite Licensee, Beyond Concrete, was called upon to help with the Landscape Architects street design for the new World Trade Center Tower Two. The plan called for a street design with sitting area located between the two towers, connecting the next to be constructed Tower Two, and the newly finished Tower One.

Being that this project was the World Trade Center rebuild security was top notch during the installation. Working at the site required daily security passes for all Beyond Concrete’s crew members. It took as much as two hours each day to go through the security checks, lunch breaks required the General Contractor, Posillico Civil, Inc. to provide an escort so the Beyond Concrete team could return to the work area.

The theme of the design was to have the overall tone set in the gray family, starting from light gray at the building line and transitioning to dark gray by the street area. The project design consisted of approximately 7200 sq. ft. of 7” thick, epoxy reinforced concrete, poured in five twelve-foot-wide strips, each strip approximately 120 feet long. The 12 ft. wide strips were divided into 12’ x 12’ squares and saw cut into 3’ x 6’ rectangles for dimension and style.

The World Trade Center Tower project required multiple samples and conversations with the architect given the complexity of design and the various pour thicknesses the site dictated. The original request was for the Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Sandscape Texture System in five different shades of gray to be installed in sequence, exposing local sands within the integrally colored concrete.

It was determined that in order to have a consistent appearance there needed to be two processes used on site to accommodate the conditions that both resulted in the same finish. A bonded overlay for thinner sections and an unbonded topping slab for thicker. Once the process was determined and the architect saw the more decorative Bomanite Alloy finishes, the decision to use the Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Alloy System was clearly the best choice.

Some sections of the installation required priming and a mortar bed that was slurry overlayed with Bomanite Alloy Color Hardener. The standard areas used conventional concrete with the Bomanite Alloy Color Hardener applied in a traditional dry-shake fashion. All areas received the same final finishing and exposure of the fine reflective aggregates contained within the Alloy.  The color started with Bomanite Nickel Gray Alloy and progressed towards the street with Shale Gray, Castle Gray, Coal Gray and ended with Cobblestone Gray.

Beyond Concrete achieved the Architects vision with the best Bomanite Decorative Concrete System and in conjunction provided a low-maintenance, high wear resistant, architectural concrete finish for the 2 World Trade Center Tower Street Design. For their outstanding work, Beyond Concrete received the 2018 Best Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Project Bronze Award. Bomanite Decorative Concrete at its finest!

Bomel Construction Installs Winning Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Hardscape for the LAFC Stadium

Exposition Park is a collection of world-class museums, educational and sport facilities and entertainment venues. It is more than just an urban park with outdoor recreational activities. Within the 160-acre campus, you can experience the fun of science, math and technology at the California Science Center, learn about the diverse cultural experience at the California African American Museum or explore natural and cultural worlds at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, or simply relax in the splendor of the City of Los Angeles Rose Garden.

The landmark Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum offers the excitement of world-class competition, and the Los Angeles Football Club Banc of California Stadium is the newest addition to the community that is all ready to host the 2028 Olympics.  Bomel Construction Company, Bomanite Licensee, was brought in by PCL Construction Services to install the fine details of the hardscape project list of the well-known prominent designer in the community, Studio-MLA. The building interior and exterior of the Banc of California had to stand up to its reputable counterparts.  Studio-MLA developed the exterior site design concept to blend into and complement the existing venues landscaping as well as provide a highly visual and intuitive fan experience. Working closely with the team owners, design team, and the surrounding communities, Bomel Construction Company helped Studio-MLA transform the 16-acre site into an iconic facility for world class sporting and entertainment events.

A series of entry plazas, pedestrian walkways, seat walls and stairs, over 150,000 square feet of hardscape, were planned to cultivate the fan arrival experience and contribute to the visual identity of the Stadium for the surrounding community. Studio-MLA’s design drew inspiration from the LAFC brand. The Northwest corner of the site stands out with a small platform – called the “flight wall” – wrapped in a unique texture that bridges old and new inspirations. Bomel Construction Company constructed the cast-in-place concrete wall with a “Fishscale” custom form-liner done with a gray Integral Color to achieve the statement art-inspired piece. This location being most proximate to the Coliseum is key as an entrance to the building as well as a focal point for park visitors.

The Northwest Plaza entrance is designed to serve as an extension of the stadium, offering needed space for fans filtering through entrances while also providing an outdoor eating venue complete with an exterior wood deck for “The Fields LA”; a L.A. based curated food experience. Imbeds of Bomanite Stamped Concrete using the Bomacron 11.5” Boardwalk pattern in a contrasting gray color connects the two spaces as a short walkway and leads the fans from the deck seating to the entrance of the restaurant.

Studio-MLA expanded the hardscape design above ground. A publicly accessible rooftop terrace and garden over The Fields LA contains a large flexible event space that extends the Stadium Club Level lobby interior space to the outdoors. Fans can take advantage of the panoramic views over Expo Park. The terrace has been designed with a geometrical arrangement of pedestal pavers that are accentuated by a series of large trees set amid lineal planters adrift in crushed stone. Bomel Construction Company installed the gray Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Sandscape Texture finish to the lineal planters as well as the circular tree planters. The flexibility of both game day and non-game activities provide year-round engagement for the whole community.

The pedestrian entrances and walkways, throughout and around the LAFC Stadium predominately used the Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Sandscape Texture System, allowing for low maintenance and a light buff color for solar reflectance benefit. Bands of the Bomanite Alloy Exposed Aggregate System were incorporated smartly in gray with Clear Glass Aggregate and Mirror Flakes that sparkle and catch visitor’s attention serving as line formations directing fans to the stadium entrances. Bomanite Sandscape Texture and Bomanite Alloy are both suited exceptionally well for exterior applications— anywhere that improved wear resistance for light- to moderate-duty vehicular or foot traffic combined with an architectural finish is necessary. Bomanite Decorative Concrete perfect for those 22,000 fans emerging in and out of a world class stadium.
