The American Fallen Soldiers Project
The American Fallen Soldiers Project was borne of an idea that professional artist, Phil Taylor, had upon learning that his childhood friend, Capt. Blake Russell, had been killed in Iraq in 2006. Inspired by stories of Blake’s patriotism and courage during the funeral, Phil knew that he wanted to contribute to the Russell family’s healing process, so he painted a portrait of his childhood friend for them.
The family’s reaction to the portrait changed Phil’s life forever and he began the American Fallen Soldiers Project. Since its inception in 2007, hundreds of portraits have been painted and presented to families of fallen soldiers all over the country.
The American Fallen Soldiers Project National Gallery opened its doors in mid-2016, with 5,000 Square feet of gallery and office space. Texas Bomanite polished and dyed 3,040 square feet of concrete in Bomanite’s Black Orchid using the Bomanite Patene Teres system and polished it to a 400 grit. The Polyurea Joint Filler was in the color Gauntlet Grey. To keep costs down for this very special project, Texas Bomanite discounted the retail price as a donation towards the project’s success.

Project Description:
Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems are aff ordable alternatives to expensive custom flooring treatments. Autodesk, certified LEED® Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council, began as an existing shell building erected by developers, Tocci Building Corporation. Tocci was the selected General Contractor for the project.Working together with designer, KlingStubbins, Bomanite polished concrete, Patène Teres, was chosen as the sustainable flooring option to meet the needs of the fast-track schedule. Certified and trained Bomanite contractor, Premier Concrete Construction, LLC worked throughout the evenings to color and polish 13,000 square feet of concrete on three levels, along the way repairing and patching numerous small cracks and divots to provide that perfect smooth polished floor in the time frame allowed.
Bomanite Water-based Concrete Dyes were chosen as the coloring method for their low VOC content and brilliant color hues. To achieve a custom look, Black Orchid Dye was mixed with Thistle Green Dye for the main floor and Red Berry Dye was utilized for the two dining rooms on the upper floor. Target Field – Minnesota Twins Stadium
Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems are the right choice for heavily traffiked areas. Polished concrete floors provide durability and offer exceptional resistance to slipping, abrasion and impact.
The architects for the Minnesota Twins Stadium – Target Field wanted a flooring surface that could incorporate design and strength. The Legends Club Level of Target Field showcases Minnesota’s rich history of Twin Hall of Famers and the Met Club and was in need of a surface that could feature an artistic design to help accent larger-than-life art pieces of Kirby Puckett, Harmon Killebrew, Rod Carew and other historic Twins ballplayers.
Bomanite Licensed Contractor, Concrete Arts, provided the solution with the Bomanite Custom Polishing System, Patene Teres. By applying Bomanite Concrete Dyes in multiple colors and dilution levels and polishing the floor area up to a level 2 sheen, Concrete Arts was able to create a surface that allowed for design flexibility and most important functionality. As one of the highest trafficked areas at Target Field, polished concrete provided durability, low maintenance and overtime will hold up better and cost less than any other flooring option.
Upper Iowa University Student Center
The design team for Upper Iowa University wanted a flooring option which achieved the same look as coated acid stained floor without the maintenance the coating requires. When approached by the construction management firm with the clients wants and needs, Bomanite Licensed Contractor, Concrete Arts offered polished and dyed concrete floors as the option with all the answers.
Together it was decided that the Patene Teres level two polished concrete system from Bomanite would be used. A custom blend of Bomanite Warm Honey and Bomanite Malt Brown Concrete Dyes were used to create a stained patina look, with Turquoise accents. Concrete Arts provided continuity to the stair treads and landings with architectural precast polished concrete for that entity. The University was enthralled with the ability to create a monolithic stair tread and riser system which would match the look of the floor and grant the same performance and durability as the low maintenance polished concrete offers.
To cast the stairs and landings, Concrete Arts chose Lifetime Floors’ Quicktops mix due to its polymer-modified and fiber-reinforced traits. The tread and riser system was cast using a corresponding integral colorant to compliment the flooring, and were polished and honed for durability. A traction strip was sandblasted in after the polishing process to provide slip-resistance.
Upper Iowa University was so thrilled with the look of the floor it decided to utilize it in the new Student Book Store and Liberal Arts Center it was building. The book store incorporated a similar polished floor look and had Concrete Arts provide concrete counter tops for the bar in the Student Center. And the Liberal Arts building utilized precast stair treads with an open-riser look as well to create even more continuity from space to space.
Mazopiya Natural Food Store
Bomanite Licensed Contractors, Concrete Arts and Bulach Custom Rock worked together to transform the Mazopiya Grocery Store at Mystic Lake, MN. The floor was a new pour that used a specialty mix design that allowed Concrete Arts to polish a more uniform floor look with larger rock. The client wanted a level 5 deep grind with a Bomanite Concrete Dye to be put on top. The dye, Maple Syrup, was chosen to really help the specialty aggregates stand out. An additional dye was used in the refrigerated section, Sweet Potato, to section off the two areas. Concrete Arts took the floor up to a 1500 grit to provide sheen and light reflectivity
Fresno Police Department – Regional Training Center
The Fresno Police Department Regional Training Center is a 96-acre state-of-the-art training facility that will serve the City of Fresno for years to come. A 20,000 sq. ft. range house anchors one end of the site. This structure includes a warehouse, administration, gun repository, classrooms, simulators and toilet rooms. Nine rifle ranges are included on the site: seven 50-yard, one 100-yard and one 200-yard range with sniper towers. Located adjacent to the ranges is a 3,000 sq. ft. SIMS tower. The facility has numerous vehicle training areas, including a driver awareness pad, skid pad, urban chase and pursuit courses and a tactical village. On the opposite end of the site are a gym, administration building, additional classrooms and vehicle storage and maintenance structure. This project was designed to meet the current “Fresno Green” requirements for new construction.
Bomanite Licensee, Heritage Bomanite brought to life SIM Architects angular floor design with extensive sawcutting and color combinations. Heritage Bomanite used two colors in the field areas and left some areas uncolored natural gray with the complete floor being polished with the Bomanite Custom Polishing System. The Fresno Police Department logo area used Bomanite Concrete Dye – Black Orchid then a 6’ diameter stencil was placed over the dyed polished concrete and the logo was etched using gelled acid. Compass Christian Church – Compass Center

Project Description:
In its natural state, concrete is subject to staining and dusting, doesn’t wear well aesthetically and is difficult to clean. Being a heavily-trafficked church, Compass Christian Church needed an attractive, long-lasting and cost-effective concrete flooring solution for their new Compass Center facility. That’s why ICI Construction called on Bomanite Licensee, Texas Bomanite, to transform an old Food Lion grocery store floor into the beautiful floor that the congregation enjoys today.
The remodeling process began with over 6,800 square feet of existing topping removal and extensive patchwork. Then, using the Bomanite Custom Polishing System, Texas Bomanite provided 16,135 SF of polished and dyed concrete with a 1500 grit finish. Texas Bomanite also created custom scored logos throughout the campus for added style and effect.
“The opening of the Compass Center has provided us with a physical space for students to call “home,” said Shawn Maurer, Middle School Pastor. “We hope to provide a safe place where students truly matter and can feel like they belong, a place where their questions and opinions are taken seriously, and a place where they have the freedom to be themselves.”
Fort Hamilton NY PX

Project Description:
Bomanite Licensee, Premier Concrete Construction installed the Bomanite Custom Polishing System Patene Teres at the Fort Hamilton New York Post Exchange. The project was completed in 2011 and contained a combination of 21,000 sq.ft. of dyed and polished concrete flooring surfaces. Bomanite Concrete Dye, Bomanite Stabilizer Pro and Bomanite Vitrafinish were used to acheive this low-maintenance flooring system.
Throughout the PX, there was a variety of surfaces that contained some new slabs, new 2 1/2” topping slab and existing 25 year old slab, Premier Concrete Construction used their skills and craftsmenship to provide a stunning end result.
