PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS/INFORMATION
Client Need:
The owner of this planned community needed to create a high impact village and community center to be the “heart” for the surrounding community. Although they wanted to achieve a pleasing aesthetic, budget constraints did not allow for imprinted or even colored concrete.
Solution:
Bomanite Licensee, Colorado Hardscape’s exclusive Sandscape Texture® by Bomanite, formliners, and sandblasting on uncolored concrete for the walls, flatwork and steps created different textures and the visual appeal of the hard surfaces.
Results:
Concrete is the design material used to create the pathways surrounding the Community Center, the elegant pool deck, decorative wall, and The Depot floor that together make the Village of Five Parks’ Village and Community Center a truly unique and beautiful “heart” of the villages. The concrete walls include custom designed and fabricated formliners, a rustication grid pattern and selected areas of sandblasting. Concrete flatwork on sidewalks and the pool deck is highlighted by banding and panels of uncolored Sandscape Texture concrete. Cantilevered steps are installed at the changes in elevation and natural stone paving is incorporated into the concrete paving. Interior Bomanite Micro-Top and staining of the concrete floor in The Depot kept the character of a train station of yesteryear.
The Campus Recreation Center at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, is designed to serve as a vibrant activity hub for the UAB campus community. The facility is also the cornerstone of a future campus green, complementing the urban university’s commitment to becoming a more traditional, residential campus. The center allows existing programs to grow, while allowing for creation of aquatics, wellness and informal recreation offerings.
Upon entering the center, sightlines allow views into virtually every activity space. The facility boasts 18,000 square feet dedicated to weight training and cardio fitness; a four-court, wood-floor gymnasium; a separate synthetic-floor gymnasium; five racquetball courts (with one convertible to squash); four fitness studios; and an aquatics center with both leisure and lap components. Other amenities include a game room, a child-care area, a juice bar and a wellness suite.
A defining architectural feature of the building is an indoor jogging track that passes through every major activity space. Bomanite Licensee Jeffco Concrete Contractors worked with the architects design to install 12,000 square feet of custom colored Bomanite Micro-Top for the flooring surfaces throughout the Recreation Center. This high-end unique modern day design resulted in Jeffco Concrete winning the 2005 Best Micro-Top Project Gold Award.
Bomanite Licensed Contractor, Texas Bomanite worked with project designer Architect’s Inc. in the initial design phase in providing several different flooring systems for First Texas Honda, which is the largest Honda dealership in the world at over 140,000 square feet.
Texas Bomanite was asked to provide 95,665 square feet of diamond polished concrete flooring in the service areas and service drive. The finishes ranged from 800 grit to 100 grit. In the showroom area and service building, 37,150 square feet of custom colored Bomanite Micro-Top was installed with over 40,000 linear feet of decorative scoring. The highlight of the showroom was the Honda logo. 270 square feet of the front entry features the Broadcast Aggregate system by Bomanite, and the front entry walks and bridge deck features over 7,515 square feet of the Bomanite’s Sandscape exposed system.
