Bomanite Toronto Transforms Breathtaking Backyard Bliss

Residential pool deck in Toronto, Canada, using Bomanite Sandscape Refined installed by Bomanite Toronto.

When a rural backyard pool oasis exudes sophistication and timeless elegance, it effortlessly becomes the envy of the entire neighborhood.  For one Canadian countryside homeowner, creating the perfect outdoor retreat meant combining stunning design with functional decorative concrete craftsmanship.  Bomanite Toronto took on the challenge of building both a luxurious pool and a pool deck that would seamlessly integrate with the home’s classic charm.  However, before the first splash could happen, they had to dive into solving a serious drainage dilemma.

Drainage Dilemma Demands Dynamic Solutions

Residential pool deck in Toronto, Canada, using Bomanite Sandscape Refined installed by Bomanite Toronto.

Unlike typical suburban subdivision homes with level landscaping, this rural property had a unique challenge — the lowest point of the land was exactly where the pool was supposed to go.  Water naturally pooled in the area, creating a potential flooding hazard.  To combat this, Bomanite Toronto corrected the elevation by adjusting the slope and installing an underground drainage system akin to a French Drain.  This innovative solution involved a trench and channel system that redirected excess water 35 feet away to a ravine.  Now, thanks to expert engineering, the drainage system remains hidden beneath lush green grass, ensuring both function and aesthetics remain intact.

Oasis Opulence Offers Outstanding Outdoor Appeal

This project is more than just a pool, it’s a statement of sophistication.  Designed and installed by Bomanite Toronto, the backyard was envisioned as a serene oasis in the middle of the countryside.  Striking a balance between modern luxury and classic charm, the homeowners wanted a design that would stand the test of time without leaning too contemporary.  Thanks to the expertise of Bomanite Toronto’s in-house Landscape Designer, Robert Cinquemani, the final aesthetic embodies timeless elegance while blending harmoniously with the home’s rural surroundings.

Bomanite Brilliance Blends Beauty and Durability

To achieve a refined yet durable finish, this project was completed using Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Systems with a Bomanite Sandscape Refined decorative concrete finish. This system creates a smooth yet textured surface that enhances the pool deck’s aesthetic appeal while providing excellent slip resistance.  The light-reflective quality of the concrete ensures that the surface remains cool underfoot, making it perfect for barefoot summer days by the pool.  Additionally, Bomanite Toronto incorporated artificial turf into the design, adding an eye-catching contrast that enhances the natural beauty of the backyard.

Bomanite Sandscape Refined Strengthens Style and Safety

Beyond aesthetics, Bomanite Sandscape Refined offers unparalleled benefits.  Unlike traditional concrete, this system resists wear and tear, withstands harsh weather conditions, and requires minimal maintenance.  Its refined texture not only delivers a high-end look but also ensures safety by reducing the risk of slips and falls, a crucial feature for any poolside space.  Homeowners can enjoy the luxurious look of exposed aggregate without worrying about long-term upkeep.

Timeless Tranquility Transformed Through Talent

By combining innovative drainage solutions, expert craftsmanship, and high-quality decorative concrete, Bomanite Toronto turned a challenging landscape into a breathtaking backyard escape.  The use of Bomanite Sandscape Refined elevated the project from a simple pool installation to a masterpiece of design and functionality.  This customized approach ensured that the pool and surrounding deck not only met the homeowners’ aesthetic preferences but also delivered lasting durability and usability.

Exposed Aggregate Excellence Earns Admiration

Carolina Bomanite Crafts a Campus Concrete Conversion

In the Spring of 2022, Carolina Bomanite Corporation was called in to review a site with collaborating Landscape Architect Ron Cutlip at Statesville Christian School located in Statesville, NC.  The original scope was to evaluate a walkway and possible options for improving an outside seating area where students routinely would eat lunch.  The space also served as the ticket office and commissary for sporting events held on an adjoining sports field.  Given the multipurpose nature of the space, it was essential to find a solution that balanced aesthetics with durability. The existing layout had areas of uneven surfaces and outdated materials that posed both functional and visual challenges.  Carolina Bomanite’s expertise was sought to ensure the improvements would enhance the overall experience for students and visitors alike.

Pathway Perfection and Plaque Placement

Carolina Bomanite installed Statesville Christian School Lion’s Plaza area featuring Bomanite Micro-Top XT.

After several donations and designs, work started in January of 2023 with the first phase of sidewalk reconstruction.  This pathway, originally an Eagle Scout project, was beginning to fail due to not having a proper footing.  Several of the bricks were also becoming dislodged creating a trip hazard.  Considering the tight budget, it was decided to reuse and reconstruct the pathway and CMU block wall components, dig and install a proper footer, then pour an imprinted textured sidewalk.  Three future donor plaque walls were also incorporated in this first phase along with wall lighting.

Promenade Planning and Plaza Perfection

Carolina Bomanite installed Statesville Christian School Lion’s Plaza area featuring Bomanite Micro-Top XT.Once work started, additional funding became available which allowed an expansion of the original plans to include a Lions Plaza promenade walkway, covered picnic area and composite deck gathering platforms.  Once the scope expanded Carolina Bomanite Corporation began to look at how the space needed to be improved in terms of elevation.  What originally was a bare, sloping expanse needed to be brought to near level even though they were dealing with seven-plus feet of elevation drop.  To correct, a concrete support wall was constructed in the shape of the new Lions Plaza.  During this phase a gas fire pit was installed at the request of the school using blue glass.  Drainage lines were rerouted, French drains installed, as well as low voltage wiring added for lighting.  Due to a few large shade trees in the area, washed stone was used to backfill without disturbing the subsoil and shallow roots.  Having a quarry a half mile from the school proved valuable and cost efficient.

Tiered Transitions and Textured Treatments

Carolina Bomanite installed Statesville Christian School Lion’s Plaza area featuring Bomanite Micro-Top XT.Two levels were designed in order to transition from the picnic zone down to the main walkway.  Synthetic turf was used to handle the steeper transitions between these two areas which also warmed up the space by breaking up the large expanses of concrete.  The upper levels were kept consistent to allow easy travel to the restrooms located at the side of the building.  After the main promenade walkway was installed with Bomanite Slate Texture, work began on the spirit rock entrance by removing the existing asphalt.  Bomanite Slate Texture imprinted concrete was used here as well due to the entire space to receive pigmented Bomanite Micro-Top XT.  After several samples and testing, a red was chosen that once sealed provided a near match to the school’s colors.

School Spirit and Stunning Surfaces

Carolina Bomanite installed Statesville Christian School Lion’s Plaza area featuring Bomanite Micro-Top XT.Ben Hummel, the Head of School, requested that some of the school’s core values and logo be added to the main promenade.  After waiting for summer sports to slow down, the installation of Bomanite Micro-Top XT began in August.  Due to the higher daytime temperatures, Carolina Bomanite Corporation switched their detail crew to nights to combat the high temps.  A four-man crew worked for several weeks from midnight to 8-9am each day.  The white banding was applied first with the red infill last.  Both colors were applied by roller using two coats.  Once complete, the entire space received two coats of Bomanite Sealer.  After a short cure, the graphics were applied, and additional Bomanite Micro-Top XT was used.  The school’s logo turned out to be a challenge, but with seasoned detail veteran Gary Barnhill, it was completed in two days.  The installation of Bomanite Micro-Top XT and graphics took approx. two months including cure times.

Bomanite Micro-Top XT: A Mighty Makeover for Any Surface

Carolina Bomanite installed Statesville Christian School Lion’s Plaza area featuring Bomanite Micro-Top XT.When it comes to revitalizing worn-out surfaces without the hassle of complete removal, Bomanite Micro-Top XT is the ultimate game-changer.  This high-performance, polymer-modified topping, part of the Bomanite Toppings Systems family of products, provides a seamless, durable, and customizable finish that adheres to almost any substrate—think concrete, wood, metal, and even tile.  Unlike traditional resurfacing methods, Bomanite Micro-Top XT eliminates costly tear-outs and allows for intricate colors, textures, and patterns, transforming dull spaces into stunning works of art.  Whether it’s an indoor retail space craving a sleek, modern look or an outdoor plaza needing enhanced durability, this thin but mighty overlay offers superior abrasion resistance, weather tolerance, and long-lasting beauty.  Best of all, its quick application time minimizes downtime, making it the perfect solution for high-traffic environments that demand both aesthetics and performance.

Award Winning Decorative Concrete

Through expert execution, Carolina Bomanite Corporation has crafted a lasting legacy for future generations.

Colorado Hardscapes: Crafting Captivating Concrete in Denver

Streetscape using Bomanite Sandscape Texture installed by Colorado Hardscapes. In the heart of Denver, Colorado, the Central Park Station Plaza stands as a testament to the innovative use of decorative concrete.  Bomanite Licensee Colorado Hardscapes, in collaboration with Mortenson and Dig Studio, undertook an extensive hardscaping project at Central Park Station, which included the installation of a 20,000 sq. ft. Bomanite Sandscape® Texture plaza, a 14,000 sq. ft. Bomanite Sandscape® Texture streetscape, curb and gutter, three large decorative planter benches, and 8,000 sq. ft. of pavers.  This project showcases Colorado Hardscapes expertise in hardscaping with the creative design capabilities of their collaborators.

Precast Planters and Persistent Patience

Streetscape using Bomanite Sandscape Texture installed by Colorado Hardscapes. In the first phase of the project, Colorado Hardscapes purchased and placed three large precast bench planters.  The meticulous installation of these precast benches involved the placement of 21 unique pieces for each of the three bench planters.  Unexpected challenges arose from the sudden onset of cold and wet weather, requiring Colorado Hardscapes to postpone the project until the spring of 2023.  Once the weather subsided, their team prepared and scarified the sub-base for the street and plazas and then moved forward with the installation of the curb and gutter, plaza work, and streetscape.

Decorative Design with Distinctive Details

Streetscape using Bomanite Sandscape Texture installed by Colorado Hardscapes. The decorative concrete plaza comprised of 6” thick and 8’ wide alternating Bomanite Sandscape® Texture bands.  Colorado Hardscapes used custom integral color to lighten concrete beyond a standard uncolored gray.  For the dark bands, Bomanite Dark Gray integral color was used.  The standard gray curb and gutter served as a complementary feature that tied the entire project together.  The next phase required an eye for detail and a dedication to excellence.  Since the street paving was designed to look monolithic to the plaza paving, Colorado Hardscapes team of experts took the extra steps to form and place the concrete as close to perfect as possible.  This high-pressure feature of Central Park Plaza is why Colorado Hardscapes knew they were the best one for the job.

Strict Standards and Superior Streetscapes

Streetscape using Bomanite Sandscape Texture installed by Colorado Hardscapes. In addition to aligning the design of the plaza and streetscape, the Colorado Hardscapes team followed strict City of Denver Transportation standards.  This included 8’ bands that all required epoxy dowels and dowel baskets.  The colors used on the streetscape were custom color and again, Bomanite Dark Gray.  Colorado Hardscapes’ proficiency and professionalism shone through to deliver one of the most decorative and complex streets within the City of Denver.  Their work embodies the highest standards of craftsmanship and quality as is the requirement for Bomanite Licensees.

Surfaces with Superior Style

Streetscape using Bomanite Sandscape Texture installed by Colorado Hardscapes.Bomanite Sandscape® Texture decorative concrete offers numerous advantages for both aesthetic and functional applications in outdoor settings.  This specialized concrete finish is designed to emulate the appearance of sand-blasted concrete, providing a consistent texture that enhances the visual appeal of any hardscape.  Its versatility allows for the incorporation of specialized colored sands and aggregates, enabling a wide range of color and texture variations to fit various design themes.  Economically, it serves as a cost-effective alternative to other decorative concrete finishes, offering a low life cycle cost due to its pre-aged surface, which naturally reduces maintenance over time.

Durable Designs for Demanding Destinations

Streetscape using Bomanite Sandscape Texture installed by Colorado Hardscapes.Durability is another significant advantage of Bomanite Sandscape® Texture decorative concrete; the pre-aged nature of the surface means that it’s less susceptible to wear and tear, making it ideal for high-traffic areas such as plazas, walkways, shopping centers, and educational facilities.  Moreover, Bomanite Sandscape® Texture can be used in combination with various color and staining options to create durable and visually appealing hardscapes, contributing to both the longevity and the aesthetic value of the installation.  This system not only provides an architectural finish but also ensures safety with its non-skid properties, enhancing the usability in environments where safety is paramount.

Concrete Creativity at Central Park Plaza

Streetscape using Bomanite Sandscape Texture installed by Colorado Hardscapes.Central Park Station Plaza not only serves as a functional transit hub but also as a beacon of aesthetic design.  It’s more than just a transit hub; it’s a vibrant canvas of creativity and functionality.  Thanks to Colorado Hardscapes, Denver boasts yet another example of how decorative concrete can redefine and innovate urban spaces.  Whether you’re catching a train or simply soaking in the scenery, this plaza is proof that concrete can go from plain to phenomenal with purposeful precision.

Polished Perfection: Renaissance by Bomanite Delivers Stunning Floors

Main entry and stairway using Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems and Bomanite Renaissance installed by Musselman and Hall.Bomanite Renaissance, part of the Bomanite Custom Polishing System, transforms concrete floors with unmatched elegance and efficiency.  By integrating Bomanite Integral Color into the concrete at placement, this system achieves deep, rich color saturation that eliminates the need for topical dyes or coatings. Once cured, the surface is processed using the Bomanite VitraFlor System, which grinds, polishes, and seals the concrete to reveal the desired gloss and aggregate exposure.  This streamlined approach reduces labor while ensuring a vibrant, durable finish, making it a cost-effective choice for new construction and major renovations.  Ideal for full-depth pours, suspended slabs, and thick toppings, Renaissance offers flexibility across various applications while delivering stunning, consistent results.

Color Consistency and Construction Efficiency

Main entry and stairway using Bomanite Custom Polishing Systems and Bomanite Renaissance installed by Musselman and Hall. The key to Bomanite Renaissance’s vibrant finishes lies in its high pigment loading of 3.6% or greater, ensuring superior color uniformity compared to common systems with lower pigment levels. This consistency mitigates raw material variations typical in ready-mixed concrete, guaranteeing flawless floors every time.  Designed for efficiency, the Bomanite Renaissance system mimics the simplicity of polishing uncolored concrete while achieving a luxurious terrazzo-like appearance.  Whether in schools, offices, or retail spaces, this system combines ease of installation with exceptional durability.  With its ability to create polished, eye-catching floors at a reasonable cost, Bomanite Renaissance sets a new standard for integrally colored concrete surfaces.

Colorado Hardscapes Beautifies Belleview Block B Flooring

In 2014, Belleview Station in Denver, CO, was highlighted in a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) plan as a prime urban center with high-density, multi-modal potential and significant capacity for growth.  Leveraging this vision, Front Range Land and Development took on the role of master developer, shaping the entire 51-acre area.  The project’s mixed-use zone spans approximately 40 acres, subdivided into eight city blocks labeled A through H and bordered by Belleview Avenue, Niagara Street, and Union Avenue.  Each block has been thoughtfully planned to include a dynamic mix of offices, retail, and multi-family residences, creating a vibrant, interconnected community.

Collaboration and Vision: Bringing Ideas to Life

The selected color, Bomanite Coquina, provided a beautiful, natural finish that seamlessly blended with the overall architectural design.

The Antico Process: A Game-Changer for Concrete Aesthetics

Endless Possibilities with Customizable Concrete

Additionally, the process works well with Bomanite Con-Color and Chemical Stain, allowing for a broad range of color options that can further customize the look of the concrete.  Whether you’re looking for natural stone effects or a more contemporary design, the Bomanite Antico Process opens up a world of possibilities.  Clients can also explore other Bomanite systems like Bomanite Sandscape® Texture, Bomanite Sandscape Refined, Bomanite Alloy, and Bomanite Revealed System to achieve the perfect balance of texture, color, and durability for their project.

Jeffco Concrete Craftsmen Create Captivating Custom Creation

Robins & Morton’s Government Services Division was awarded a $33 million contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District for the construction of a modern Training Support Facility at Fort Rucker, Alabama.  The two-story structure, located near the Army Aviation Museum, provided climate-controlled environments for the training, storage, and preservation of decommissioned military aircraft, weapons, and artifacts.  Designed to accommodate multiple aircraft parts, the facility featured clear-span maintenance areas.  The project also included vital site improvements, such as underground utilities, storm drainage, access roads, landscaping, communication infrastructure, and essential Antiterrorism/Force Protection measures.

Jeffco Concrete Creative Collaboration

Knight Architects, Inc. was selected as the Project Designer because of their long history of successful military base projects.  The stakeholders wanted the Army Aviation Logo applied at the entry court to give their new building an added touch.  Bomanite Licensee Jeffco Concrete Contractors was contracted to bring that vision to life in decorative concrete.  Working closely with all participating entities, Bomanite Toppings Systems using Bomanite Micro-Top XT was chosen to implement their mission because of its extraordinary adhesion and ability to withstand prolonged pedestrian traffic

Stencil Success Despite Sweltering Steamy Summer

Jeffco Concrete Contractors faced several challenges during the installation of the project’s 16-foot logo, which took place in the sweltering Alabama heat of nearly 100 degrees in mid-August.  The logo, located in a busy entry area, had to be meticulously laid out by hand using a custom stencil.  Adding to the complexity, five Bomanite Micro-Top XT color-matched colors were applied to create the desired design.  With heavy pedestrian traffic constantly passing through the area, construction stanchions became a critical part of the process, ensuring both safety and the smooth progression of the installation. Despite these hurdles, Jeffco successfully delivered a visually striking and durable installation.
