Monarch Casino Resort Spa

Preparing for the winters is a must in Black Hawk Colorado. In wanting to make a safe transition area from the outdoor environment to the indoors is what Monarch Casino Resort & Spa was thinking when it came time for their renovation. After 5 years of construction, the Monarch Casino, opened to the public in November 2020. With the build out managed by PCL Construction, the casino doubled its size to provide expanded amenities to their customers including new luxury hotel space, new restaurants and a world class spa and pool facility. To help welcome their guests, the casino also built a new parking garage with an attached high-end Porte Cochere.

First impressions are everything

What better way to welcome people to the luxury casino than to provide a luxury drop off area. Bomanite Licensee, Colorado Hardscapes was contacted in mid-2018 by PCL Construction to install over 14,000 sq. ft. of decorative concrete in the new Porte Cochere area. Designed by MBA Architecture (One Studio D+A) Bomanite stamped and stained concrete systems were a part of the specification from day one. Working closely with the project’s designer, including providing multiple rounds of concrete sampling and a visit to Colorado Hardscapes’ design center, the architect honed in on two different coordinating colors for the Bomanite Imprinted Concrete System and two colors chosen for an added textural finish of Bomanite Exposed Aggregate System Sandscape Texture. The mix of colors and textures provided specific visual paths to keep cars in specific lanes and to designate curbs and pedestrian friendly areas.

The selected colors and texture of the Bomacron English Sidewalk Slate were picked to enhance the stone veneer and copper covered columns in the area. V cut joints were used throughout all the concrete for the control and decorative joints. A radiant heat system in the concrete keeps the entire area warm and free of snow during the winter months. The Bomanite Sandscape Texture Exposed Aggregate System adds an additional slip resistant benefit.

Every project has its challenges

In this case, the challenge was the snowmelt system. Coordination with the other sub-contractors, specifically the snowmelt subcontractor was a full-time job for the Colorado Hardscapes team. Claiming workspace for decent size daily pours while maintaining slopes and jointing layout took a lot of preplanning and quality control. Pouring 4 different concrete types through the radiant heat system was a forming challenge. In the end with their expertise and craftsmanship Colorado Hardscapes was able to provide a consistent looking concrete installation across the entire area.

Hardscape Satisfaction

After a year of fulfilling the punch list requirements, Colorado Hardscapes was very proud of the final outcome of the Bomanite Decorative Concrete products they installed for the Monarch Casino. The Bomanite Company awarded Colorado Hardscapes the 2020 Best Bomanite Imprint Systems Project Silver Award for creating a comfortable environment for customers with timeless architecture that provides highly detailed precise decorative concrete work for the Monarch Casino Resort & Spa.

Charles Schwab Retail and Conference Center

Located in Lone Tree, Colorado, the Charles Schwab Lone Tree Campus phase #3 project started coming out of the ground in 2018 with a new 45,000 square foot retail space and 5 story parking structure.  Mortenson Construction contracted with Bomanite Licensee, Colorado Hardscapes to install the specified Bomanite stamped concrete designed for the main entry into the retail and conference building and surrounding drive areas.  Colorado Hardscapes worked with Schwab’s designers and Davis Partnership Architects to select the Bomacron English Sidewalk Slate pattern with natural gray colors.

Added to the design was a 17’ wide section walkway of Bomanite Exposed Aggregate System Sandscape Texture that utilizes specialized mix designs, additives and topical treatments that can incorporate unique colored sands or aggregates. The thoroughfare was encapsulated with a 6” perimeter band of broom finished concrete that leads from the sidewalk straight to the conference center’s door.  Detail was taken to match the saw cut joints in the Sandscape installation to the building’s interior flooring tile layout for a continuous flow from the exterior to the interior space.

The exterior paving showcases a marked handicap parking lot and accommodates a fire lane access where the concrete was poured 7” thick with rebar reinforcement.  In total, 9,625 sq. ft. of Bomanite stamped concrete and 1,740 sq. ft. of Bomanite Sandscape Texture Systems were installed for not only the distinct and stunning design detail but for long-term durability and low maintenance attributes. Using a combination of imprinted concrete and exposed aggregate creates a cohesive and complementary decorative concrete element to the exterior space and design of the building.

Through many discussions with Mortenson, Colorado Hardscapes became their go-to contractor to help with other parts of the project.  Along with the installation of the exterior hardscape, Colorado Hardscapes was contracted to install decorative saw cuts at two parking garage levels and asked to help remedy two board formed walls that when poured (by others) did not pass Mortenson’s standards.

Bomanite Topping Systems Micro-Top ST was selected to be the new finish on the walls. Bomanite Micro-Top ST is a two-part, polymer-modified cementitious coating that has excellent adhesion and weather resistance when applied to correctly prepared and primed surfaces.  Colorado Hardscapes’ crews spent many hours grinding and patching the existing walls to get them smooth enough to apply the Bomanite Micro-Top ST.  The two feature walls now accent the exterior finishes on the building and provide a smooth and sleek appearance.

The Bomanite stamped concrete, Bomanite Sandscape Texture, and Bomanite Micro-Top ST turned out beautiful and earned Colorado Hardscapes the 2020 Best Bomanite Toppings Systems Project Silver Award.  Using readily available multiple Bomanite products to provide great solutions for the General Contractor, Architect and client is what makes Colorado Hardscapes an astounding partner for any design project.

Patterson Residential Driveway

The Patterson’s contacted local Bomanite Licensee, Bomanite Toronto for design inspiration for their front driveway that would be as awe inspiring as their home. They wanted something that was durable enough for the snowy winters, to be able to handle snow removal equipment and provide low maintenance as well as be fashionable in layout and design.

Bomanite Toronto worked with the homeowners, providing several samples of different systems, aggregates and exposure levels to find the right style and design for their project. The Bomanite Sandscape Texture Exposed Aggregate System was chosen with a Buckskin Integral color for the main driveway. Approximately 3,000 square feet of concrete was poured, placed and finished. The banding along the driveway was formed and poured separately using a Limestone textured finish. Designed saw cuts throughout the driveway were also placed as part of the overall design. Exposing the aggregates with a Deep Wash brought out the aggregate colors complementing the brick surface of the basketball court as well as the checkerboard pattern courtyard entry.

Bomanite Sandscape Texture is a highly durable and cost effective architectural concrete finishing option that utilizes specialized concrete mix designs containing select sands and aggregates. Installed by Bomanite Licensed concrete craftsmen throughout the US and Canada, Bomanite Sandscape Texture is the product of choice for projects requiring a decorative and durable finish alternative to traditional concrete paving. Natural, regionally selected and qualified sands such as granite, quartz or limestone are the common aggregates of choice for installations. The natural non-skid properties and abrasion resistant aggregates make Bomanite Sandscape Texture the perfect choice for all exterior concrete applications.

Bomanite Exposed Aggregate surfaces are durable and stylish for residential spaces that can include Driveways, Patios, Walkways and Pool Decks. Correctly placed and finished concrete combined with Bomanite Color Hardener or Bomanite Integral Color results in long lasting installations that will incur decades of use. The homeowner’s choice of using Bomanite Decorative Concrete as an eye-catching innovative design is a smart investment. Only Bomanite offers an unmatched range of innovative design options to turn ordinary concrete into something extraordinary.

The Sandscape color and finish for the Patterson’s Home complements the extravagant courtyard of concrete pavers, grass pattern and stone walls and columns earning Bomanite Toronto a Silver Award for the Best Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Project.

Residence Condominiums (Imprint with Sandscape Finish)

The Residence Condominiums is a full-service hi-rise housing development located in Clayton, Mo that offers a 24-hour doorman, beautiful common spaces, guest suites, heated secure garage for those winter months, a large inviting swimming pool and private party room for some of their amenities. A top selling feature is the location, walkable to downtown that has a collection of boutiques, galleries, hotels and restaurants known throughout the region.

The condominium ownership approached Bomanite Licensee, Musselman & Hall Contractors, LLC about updating and replacing their aging pavement at the front entrance driveway. The object was to source a product that would be low-maintenance and have longevity. After meeting with the Board Members, reviewing sample products and systems a plan of action was decided. A Bomanite Imprinted Concrete Pattern with an Exposed Aggregate Finish was chosen for style and functionality. Musselman & Hall Contractors replaced the vehicular portion with 6” concrete pavement integrally colored with Bomanite Light Copper. The 3,750 square foot area was imprinted with the Bomacron English Sidewalk Slate stamp and given a light exposed Bomanite Sandscape Texture finish to complete the sophisticated parking pavement design. The stamped pattern with exposed aggregate Sandscape finish was chosen due to the nature that a pre-worn finish would not show the wear from traffic nor need constant resealing to look fresh.

Along with the parking area Musselman & Hall Contractors also replaced 1,700 square feet of the entry sidewalk that leads to the main entrance for a chic complementary transition. Bomanite Cafe Au Lait Integral Color was chosen for the concrete bands and Bomanite Franciscan Red Color Hardener for the expanse of the walkway to correspond with the existing brick exterior colors. The Bomacron Slate Texture imprint with hand tooled joints for precision of placement of design were used throughout the space. The main walkway now boasts a sleek updated pathway for guests and homeowners.

The Bomanite Exposed Aggregate line of products and systems have a built-in long-life span as well as the long standing Bomanite Imprint Systems, both known for their robust durability. Bomanite Sandscape Texture is the product of choice for projects requiring a decorative and durable finish alternative to traditional concrete paving that provides an increased surface and slip resistance benefit. The natural non-skid properties and abrasion resistant aggregates make Bomanite Sandscape Texture the perfect choice for all residential and commercial exterior concrete applications including entries, municipal or public works projects, hospitals, educational facilities, museums, pool decks, plazas and more. Combined with the Bomanite Imprint Systems, the Bomanite Sandscape Texture finish is a robust, sustainable option where low maintenance, slip resistance and a decorative concrete surface is desired; delivering the best of both Bomanite Decorative Concrete products and systems!

Musselman & Hall Contractors, LLC showcased their creativity, quality and craftsmanship with the installation of the Residence Condominiums driveway and entryway earning them the GOLD Award for the Best Bomanite Imprint Systems Project.

Valley Children’s Hospital

Valley Children’s Healthcare began as the vision of five civic-minded women who saw the need for a dedicated pediatric hospital in Central California. For nearly 70 years, Valley Children’s Healthcare has grown from a 42-bed hospital in 1952 to a 358-bed, nationally respected pediatric healthcare network today with more than 640 physicians and 3,500 staff. Valley Children’s delivers high-quality, comprehensive care to more than 1.3 million children in a 12-county service area and has been recognized four years in a row by U.S. News and World Report as one of the “Best Children’s Hospitals” in the nation for various specialties. Valley Children’s is the first children’s hospital west of the Rockies to receive Magnet Nursing designation, the highest nursing benchmark in the world.

As the Valley Children’s Healthcare network continues to grow and expand they recently implemented their landscaping Master Plan Phase 2 at the Valley Children’s Hospital location in Madera, California to accommodate gatherings, family events and fund raising efforts. Taking advantage of the beautiful California weather for more outdoor events, their south side building landscaping needed improvements for vehicle access for caterers, food trucks as well as emergency, freight and maintenance vehicles.

Working with Heritage Bomanite, the California Central Valley Bomanite Decorative Concrete Contractor, a design was put in place to accommodate the vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Dedicated to providing a top-notch installation for a top-rated children’s hospital was a common goal of all trades during the installation. With a strong presence in the Central Valley, the values of Valley Children’s call for a set of shared standards driven by excellence, compassion, heart, care for all, and integrity.

The Bomanite Exposed Aggregate System exterior concrete hardscape stands up to the test of time with a history in strength, durability and adds multiple design aesthetics to collaborate with plantings, shrubs and structures. Bomanite Sandscape Texture and Bomanite Revealed were chosen based on a previous specification in place for Valley Children’s smaller satellite hospitals north and south of the central valley location that were also installed by Heritage Bomanite. With its proven performance and keeping within the color theme, 21,082 Square feet of Seal Gray Bomanite Sandscape Texture and 5,899 Square feet of Bomanite Revealed with Light and Dark Blue Glass, Black Granite Aggregate and Bomanite Seal Gray Integral Color were incorporated into a new sidewalk/accessible driveway and patio entrance along with 5,555 square feet of decorative sawcuts delivering necessary control joints with designer appeal.

Heritage Bomanite installed the Pergola Amphitheater with stadium seating that will host many concerts for the children and their families. Over 13,000 square feet of natural gray broom finished concrete can be found in exterior walkways surrounding the amphitheater and the low-maintenance freshly landscaped planter and flower beds by Landscape Development Inc. Working with an event deadline, the newly finished landscape created a perfect background for the 23rd Annual Harvest Ball, a Signature Event of Valley Children’s. This elegant gala has grown to host more than 900 of the community’s most generous philanthropists each year and celebrates the life-saving mission of Valley Children’s.

Used in combination with a variety of color and staining options, Bomanite Sandscape Texture creates consistent texture and durable hardscapes. Natural stone such as granite, quartz or marble along with unique aggregates such as recycled glass or porcelain are common aggregates of choice for Bomanite Revealed installations. The natural non-skid properties and abrasion resistant aggregates make both Bomanite Revealed and Bomanite Sandscape Texture the perfect choice for entries, municipal or public works projects, hospitals, educational facilities, museums, pool decks, plazas and more. The Bomanite Decorative Concrete Exposed Aggregate Systems offer a variety of modernized mixes and an unlimited palette of colors, textures and aggregate options to choose from, providing cost-effective solutions that are more durable than ever and reveal just how brilliant concrete can be while delivering that little bit of sparkle to any festivity.

Jose Campos, Field Engineer for Quiring General, the GC for this project had this to say about Heritage Bomanite’s workmanship “On behalf of Quiring General, we would like to thank Heritage Bomanite for their outstanding contribution to the Valley Children’s Healthcare Landscape Master Plan Phase II project in Madera, CA. We appreciate your team’s persistence, commitment, and focus to help deliver a high-quality project on schedule and within the client’s budget.”

Heritage Bomanite exemplified Valley Children’s values of excellence and integrity earning them the Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Project Over 6,000 Sq. ft Silver Award. With their outstanding workmanship they have been asked to continue with Phase III of the Valley Children’s Healthcare Landscape Master Plan, providing additional beautiful Bomanite Decorative Concrete.

Jones Residence Driveway

The Jones family was looking to update their driveway from the standard concrete that was installed throughout the neighborhood. Located in Burlington, Ontario the homeowners contacted local Canadian Bomanite Licensee, Bomanite Toronto Ltd to discuss details, options and colors for their exterior concrete project. Bomanite Toronto had 1,830 square feet to work with for the homeowners. Along with the driveway, the front porch design was to be incorporated for an overall cohesive look.

After visiting Bomanite Toronto’s showroom and reviewing several samples, color combinations, different patterns and textures, the homeowners chose the Bomacron Yorkshire Stone imprint pattern set at a 45 Degree angle for an eye-catching design to enhance their driveway and front patio entrance. Yorkshire Stone is a pattern and texture from the Bomanite Imprint Systems collection that allows for a clean, traditional Ashlar look with a texture similar to English Slate, but with more striation giving an overall Sandstone-like appearance. Yorkshire Stone is appropriate for all applications where consistent depth of tool joints and texture are desired. Yorkshire Stone has a distinct, but light texture that is enough to have a good slip resistance with a light sealer application, that is durable enough and works with the Canadian winters, great for underfoot while taking in the groceries or for kids playing outside. The Yorkshire Stone Pattern is combination of Individual stones available in both a Horizontal and a 45-degree texture in sizes varying from 6” x 24”, 12” x 12”, 12” x 18”, 18” x 18”, 18” x 30”, 24” x 24”, 30” x 30” and 36” x 36” providing a custom pattern and custom fit to any design.

Bomanite Toronto had to work with and around the existing concrete walkway that traveled throughout the residential community in order to install the new driveway entrance. In doing so they collaborated with the homeowners to choose contrasting and complimentary colors that would be cohesive with the existing walk and the house colors. Bomanite Shale Gray Color Hardener and a Gray Release Agent were chosen for the driveway and patio steps. A border was created along the driveway and patio area using Bomanite Brownstone Color Hardener. The patio steps were shaped, textured and colored with the Brownstone Color Hardener giving it a popping edge detail and adding character to the home’s exterior, matching the house nicely.

Bomanite Imprinted Concrete surfaces are the most durable surfaces of their type on the marketplace. Correctly placed and finished concrete combined with Bomanite Color Hardener results in long lasting installations that will incur decades of use. The homeowner’s choice of using Bomanite Decorative Concrete as an innovative design is a smart investment that will outlast the plain concrete installed in their residential community.

Only Bomanite cast-in-place architectural concrete provides the beauty of natural paving with the durability and affordability of concrete. With more than 200 creative patterns and an endless palette of colors, Bomanite offers an unmatched range of innovative design options to turn ordinary concrete into something extraordinary.

AWARDS: Bomanite Toronto won the 2017 Best Bomanite Imprinted Project under 12,000 Sq. Ft – Silver Award for their extraordinary concrete work.

Private Residence Exterior Hardscape – Fresno, CA

What happens when an Interior Designer grabs hold of the great outdoors? A creative free-spirited, bright and relaxing space that’s interchangeable with the seasons and gathering conversations. Lisa Davis, Interior Designer, owner of ESB2, worked with her client to style and design the exterior of their home. The homeowner had a blank canvas for the front and backyard space, making it ideal and at the same time a large task to get everything just right that expressed the homeowner style and family’s activities.

Davis, familiar with hardscapes chose to work with Bomanite Licensee, Heritage Bomanite located in Fresno, California. Viewing several samples of architectural concrete for design and color that would fit into a cozy cobblestone cottage feel, Davis visited Heritage Bomanite’s showroom to help with narrowing down the choices. Working with Davis’ design plan, Heritage Bomanite transformed the front and back yards by not only installing a decorative concrete driveway, back patio and walkways, but also roof structures, a BBQ island and entertainment center, a fire place, a fire pit, artificial grass around the pool and lots of stone veneer columns and seat walls. One of the first elements was to move the garage door from the side of house to the front to allow for caters to fully set up in the garage to create a better flow and function for entertaining their large extended family and friends. From the back of the house it looks like an extension of the original design of the home.

The beautiful imprinted concrete chosen, set the tone for the design with a Bomacron English Sidewalk Slate pattern that has a European flair and old world charm lending to the cobblestone effect desired by the client and made cohesive by Davis’ exterior hardscape plan. The imprinted pattern runs the length of the driveway and front entryway set in a Bomanite Sand Color Hardener and a Bomanite French Gray Release Agent to compliment the clean lines and stone of the exterior of the home. Bomanite Color Hardener provides durability beyond vehicle access, its tough enough to stand up to the wear and tear of inclement weather, kid scooters and catered events, it can handle any kind of traffic. The Bomacron English Sidewalk Slate pattern was continued in the backyard patio, dining and entertaining and play areas providing long-term and multi-functional uses with an overall installation of 4,659 square feet.

Working with a color palette of warm oranges and bright blues, Davis intertwined pops of the customers favorite colors in pool lounge chairs, furniture cushions and pillows, planters, shade umbrellas and awnings. The color was even incorporated into the concrete painting that hangs on the fireplace, created and given to the customer by Heritage Bomanite for being such a blessing to work with. Davis’ design became a personal journey to make sure her client had the best of the best, even hand painting shutters herself. Inspired by tranquility, simplicity and movability, Davis created an exterior hardscape that provides the client with a home that works for all seasons, intimate settings or large gatherings.

50 Fifty DTC Office Building

50 Fifty DTC is a unique tower that contains a six-story office building above eight levels of parking (two underground) in the Denver Tech Center of Colorado. The area is known for its typical suburban office complex featuring buildings set among a sea of asphalt parking lots and expansive lawns. With the densification of the area the client wanted something different and design inspired by nautical nuances. The office building’s design was driven by a desire to express a strong sense of style on a highly visible property. Every material selected for the construction of 50 FIFTY was considered with only quality and performance in mind. From the handpicked granite to local artwork adorning the hallways, there were no short cuts taken, only design excellence.

The 50 Fifty DTC office building employs floor-to-ceiling performance glass, and strategically placed light wells to both maximize site effectiveness and promote workplace wellness and sustainable design. 100% covered, secured parking at 3.5 spaces per 1,000 SF, Common Conference Room, Collaborative Lounge and Work Space Areas, State-of-the-Art Fitness Center, Secure Bicycle Storage & Mechanics Station, all with expansive views and high-end finishes appeal to companies who want the amenities and style of an urban location.

Bomanite Licensee, Colorado Hardscapes’ scope of work was concentrated on the building’s grand porte-cochère. Tucked beneath a series of V-shaped structural members, the design creates a dramatic entry and is intricately articulated with lighting both above and below to resemble the motion of waves lapping against a vessel. Guests are greeted with a direct view into the marble-lined lobby through the elegant interior glass curtains. An adjacent terrace offers a semi-private garden level space.

The architects plan called for Bomanite’s Sandscape Refined Exposed Aggregate System, using a white Color Hardener and combining locally-sourced aggregates with crushed mirror glass to resemble the sun reflecting off the water for the curbs and walkways. The design called for a great deal of precision related to saw cuts both as joints and aesthetic elements. Saw-cut joints radiate toward the building in diverging rays and special, radius-cut joints were fit-out with illumination to mimic the undulating LED lights integrated overhead. Recognizing the difficulties with delivering a uniform finish with the Bomanite Sandscape Refined System on complex, curved, and multi-level surfaces, Colorado Hardscapes worked to address this challenge with additional technical training and multiple testing to produce the expected quality and hi-end result. The detailed walkways and curbs seamlessly match the interior décor which contrasts against the dark-grey Integrally Colored concrete broom finished drive lanes, creating a black-tie luxury experience.

Bomanite Sandscape Refined is an architectural exposed concrete with a very fine exposure depth. The Sandscape Refined System utilizes specialized concrete mix designs, dry shake color hardener and/or integral color, topical treatments and advanced application procedures to produce a finished product that showcases the fine aggregate. The final product is a unique alternate to other decorative concrete finishes that produces a monolithic concrete slab with a low life cycle cost due to the pre-aged nature of the surface.  Bomanite Sandscape Refined is suited for exterior applications both new construction and major renovation projects. Bomanite Sandscape Refined is a perfect choice anywhere that improved wear resistance for light- to moderate-duty vehicular or foot traffic combined with an architectural finish is necessary. Due to the use of Bomanite Color Hardener, these highly durable surfaces are available in a multitude of colors, including cost effective light-reflective formulations that may not require the use of white cement to reduce heat island effect.

This Nautical themed office complex with its floor-to-ceiling glass, natural light that fills every office and core space, environmentally friendly products, water saving landscape design, creates an extremely energy efficient building. The sustainable design, materials and construction allow 50 Fifty to seek LEED Gold certification with this stunning sophisticated design.

Colorado Hardscapes won the 2018 Best Bomanite Exposed Aggregate System Silver Award for their precision and technical installation.

Essex County Estate Driveway

The owners of this grand estate in Essex County, Massachusetts installed several decorative concrete systems throughout their property. The estate contains an indoor swimming pool, BBQ house, several patios and courtyards, a Barn and two garages, plus a full indoor basketball court that doubles as a Hockey Rink.

After working with Premier Concrete Construction, LLC on their garage project and reviewing additional needs, the homeowner acquired their services for a Pervious Concrete System. The homeowner wanted a pervious cobblestone driveway for the tradesmen estate entrance. The driveway needed to reflect the exterior design of the home and be able to handle storm water runoff while supporting the weight and use of delivery vehicles.

Bomanite Grasscrete is the green alternative to standard concrete surfaces providing a variety of landscape solutions while maintaining a sustainable green product design used for emergency access lanes, delivery access routes, overflow parking areas, and for intermittent drainage channels that help prevent erosion.

Grasscrete has been used as an exposed utilitarian product for functional applications and as a concealed system with vegetation such as grass or native ground cover installed over the concrete allowing consumers to mitigate drainage issues while maintaining strong structural integrity for some of the heaviest vehicles to operate unencumbered. The Partially Concealed Grasscrete System provides the differential spacing you see with cobblestones giving the homeowner the look desired.

The Grasscrete single-use molded pulp formers were shaped and laid on the sub grade at approx. 1,300 sq. ft. to create the access for the service vehicles. Concrete was poured and placed over the formers and then voids were opened after the concrete hardened, allowing for grass to be planted.  Grasscrete offers the ability to provide year-round access for a variety of applications requiring structural paving surfaces without compromising the aesthetics of the exterior landscaping.
